How to Wear a Cuban Chain

A Cuban chain is the easiest statement piece there is: heavy enough to be noticed, simple enough to wear with anything. Here's how to get it right.

1. Pick your length

  • 18 in: sits on the collarbone. Clean and close, great with an open collar.
  • 20 in: just below the collarbone. The most versatile length, and the easiest place to start.
  • 22 in: upper chest. Reads bolder and works best over a plain tee.

An adjustable chain lets you try all three. Our Sizing & Care guide shows where each length falls.

2. Match the width to the look

A 3–5 mm chain is an everyday piece that layers easily. Go wider when you want the chain to be the whole outfit. If you're new to chains, 5 mm is the sweet spot: visible without shouting.

3. Layer with intent

Stack two chains at different lengths, at least 2 in apart, so they don't tangle. Mix widths (a thin chain over a heavier one) and keep to one or two metal tones.

4. Steel or gold tone?

Polished steel looks sharp with black, grey and denim. Gold tone warms up white, cream and earth tones. Mixing both is fine; just do it on purpose.

5. Keep it looking new

Take it off for the gym and the pool, put fragrance on before your chain, and wipe it with a soft cloth after wearing.
